DNA Testing

Non-Legal DNA Test

A private, peace-of-mind DNA testing option for people seeking personal answers without using the results for court or another official proceeding.

What it is

Non-legal DNA testing uses collected buccal-swab samples to help answer a biological relationship question for personal knowledge. The designated laboratory performs the analysis and issues the result according to its procedures.

Who it’s for

  • Families seeking private peace-of-mind answers
  • Adults exploring a possible biological relationship
  • People who do not need results for court or official use

How it works

  1. Contact us to confirm the relationship question and participants.
  2. We review the laboratory's collection and identification requirements.
  3. Cheek-swab samples are collected, labeled, sealed, and prepared for shipment.
  4. The laboratory analyzes the samples and reports the result through its approved process.

Legal versus non-legal

Non-legal results are intended for personal information and are not designed for court, custody, child-support, immigration, or other official matters. If the result may be needed officially, choose a legal DNA test with verified identification and a documented chain of custody.

What to expect or bring

Each adult should be prepared to show current identification. A parent or legal guardian may need to attend and provide consent for a minor. Follow the laboratory's instructions about eating, drinking, smoking, or chewing gum before collection.

Mobile-service availability

Mobile availability: Mobile DNA collection may be available when permitted by laboratory requirements and the circumstances of the requested test.

Important choice

If you are unsure whether you may need the result for a legal or official purpose later, discuss that before collection. A non-legal test generally cannot be converted into a legal test after the samples have been collected.

Opening status

This service is planned for launch. Appointment requests may be submitted now, but availability is not confirmed until Royal Standard contacts you. Laboratory requirements, eligible relationships, participant requirements, pricing, turnaround time, and opening availability will be confirmed before service begins.
